Master of the House
The first time I saw Les Miserables the 10th anniversary concert, I was impressed by the song " Master of the House". It's very sarcastic and vividly shows the word "cunning" musically. I love this song so much that I couldn't help but draw it. There are two versions of my work about the song. The first time I drew it, I was too focused on the appearance of the Mr. and Mrs. Thenardier, so I forgot to arrange my composition properly. After I finished coloring it, I was dissatisfied with the weak connection between the two characters. Therefore, in the second version I drew them holding a crying chicken head on a chopping block. Beneath them, the abused servant almost gets hit by the falling knife. So all of the characters in the center of the picture look like they are in motion. On the right edge, I drew in the plot's events from bottom to top starting with what happened after Fantine passed away. On the left side, I depicted the lyrics description about how this terrible inn charges you for extra money.

Master of the house, keeper of the zoo
Ready to relieve 'em of a sou or two
Watering the wine, making up the weight
Pickin' up their knick-knacks when they can't see straight
Everybody loves a landlord. Everybody's bosom friend
I do whatever pleases
Jesus! Won't I bleed 'em in the end!
Food beyond compare. Food beyond belief
Mix it in a mincer and pretend it's beef
Kidney of a horse, liver of a cat
Filling up the sausages with this and that
Residents are more than welcome
Bridal suite is occupied
Reasonable charges
Plus some little extras on the side!
Charge 'em for the lice, extra for the mice
Two percent for looking in the mirror twice
Here a little slice, there a little cut
Three percent for sleeping with the window shut
When it comes to fixing prices
There are a lot of tricks he knows
How it all increases, all them bits and pieces
Jesus! It's amazing how it grows!
